USA: 'I want my fifteen dollars!' - minimum wage protest hits Milwaukee
Hundreds of protesters gathered in Milwaukee on Tuesday, to demand a state-wide minimum wage of $15 (€13.90). The protesters marched through the city chanting ‘I want my fifteen dollars' and ‘I believe that we will win.’
The protests, organised under the banner of 'Fight for $15' kicked-off nation-wide with tens of thousands of workers and their sympathisers taking part in rallies, including large demonstrations in New York Detroit, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles.
The campaign originated in 2012, since then it has gained ground with the support of the Service Employees International Union. The ultimate goal of what will be a year-long pressure campaign is reportedly to bring a higher minimum wage and working rights for an estimated 64 million American low-wage workers.
