USA: Bernie Sanders slams US prison system, Donald Trump in latest election rally
United States Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders held a presidential rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, Monday, attracting around 2,500 people.
Sanders slammed comments made by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, saying that "for Donald Trump or anyone else in this country to refer to people from Mexico as rapists and criminals, that is not an American value, that is old fashioned racism and we will not tolerate it."
Sanders went on to criticise the US prison system, stating that there was "a direct correlation between this very high rate of youth unemployment and the fact that so many of our people are in jail," adding that "corporations should not be making profits incarcerating people in this country."
The self-proclaimed 'socialist' candidate for the Democratic Party's nomination for president in the 2016 US presidential election race has in recent weeks boasted impressive polling and fund-raising numbers.
