UAE: Crowd wowed as Batmobile owner reveals himself with the vehicle
Dozens of people whipped out camera phones to pose with a replica of the famous Batmobile from the ‘Batman: Dark Knight' film franchise, in Dubai on Monday. Owner Amire Adile said, “You see Ferraris and Lamborghinis every day, but you don’t see a Batmobile every day.” According to Adile the car is used for promotions helping mainly with “foot-flow, because it’s an iconic product that everybody wants to see.”
The car, which was built in 2012 has only 250km (155 miles) on the clock and has been marketed by GTR motors for €860,000 ($947,849). Adile claims that “anybody who has the money can buy it; this is Dubai where everything is affordable.”
The Batmobile's engine roared as it was taken to a tow truck, on its way to make its debut at the Boy Toys motor festival in Abu Dhabi.
Powered by a 5.7-litre, 8-cylinder Corvette engine producing 550 horsepower, with a top speed of 250kph (155 mph), the car also had a propane "jet engine" that shoots flames from the exhaust. However, this feature has been removed since it does not comply with UAE health and safety regulations.
A video of the Batmobile sent the internet into a frenzy on October 18, with the 17-second clip viewed around 1.5 million times in just seven hours. The viral success of the video has given Adile his 15 seconds of fame, claiming “as the doors go up, as I can say, the girls’ line up.”
