Turkey: Davutoglu calls for a new constitution after election victory
The AKP's Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, re-appointed following victory in the Turkish General Election, called for a new constitution to be established and for opposition groups to work together with the government for the benefit of the whole country, Sunday. .
During his speech, Davutoglu asked the country's diverse political forces to "spend [..] energy from now on for the benefit of this country" to create for "a new Turkey where there is no fight, no polarisation, where there is political normalisation, where everybody salutes each other in peace."
He went on to restate the need for "constitutional changes," which, he said, should be taken "for the sake of a healthier election system, for the sake of a productive and transparent governmental structuring." He ended his intervention "making a call to the all political parties to make new civilian national constitution".
