China: Merkel and Li Keqiang call for political solution in Syria
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for a political solution to the Syria conflict during a joint press conference in Beijing, Thursday.
"We stand for the diplomatic and political solution for the 3,000 victims and millions of refugees from Syria, the time is pressing. And I am glad that there are, at least, ways to discuss and maybe also bring together all the necessary actors. The sooner we can help those people the better it is," Merkel stated
Discussing China's recent financial woes, Merkel made clear her confidence in the Chinese economy. "I would like to say that I have total confidence in China's economic development, which is gradual and constantly changes. It has to be innovated. China invests a lot in environmental friendly products, and here Germany can be a very good partner," the German chancellor said, adding that "we have started a modern cooperation like the 'German Industry 4.0' and 'Made in China 2025.' There is big potential here but also the product consumption is of a good quality. That means we can further our production and cooperation even more."
Li also announced plans to begin Chinese-German "negotiations on cyberspace development to build an open and safe cyber system to protect the intellectual property rights."
As well as meeting with Li, the German chancellor is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping later on Thursday.
