
Russia: FM Lavrov discusses Syria, trade with Israel's Elkin
Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Israeli minister and co-chairman of the Joint Russian-Israeli commission on trade and economic cooperation Ze'ev Elkin met in Moscow, Wednesday, as part of bilateral talks on developing trade and economic cooperation between the two states.
Elkin, who also serves as Minister of Immigrant Absorption and Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, noted the importance of the consolidation of efforts by the international community in combating terrorism during the meeting. Regarding Syria he said the Israeli delegation were keen to "know the position of the Russian side" in resolving the conflict in the country.
"We are actively assisting the external players who are contributing to this process and have not stopped doing so," responded Lavrov. "I hope that we will reach some definitive changes and all those who can influence this situation on the ground will be working in one and the same direction, in harmony, unanimously, taking into account the interests of the Syrian people," he concluded.
