Russia: Lavrov pledges support for Libya, Iraq "political solution" to Syrian crisis
Moscow will continue to help Libya "re-establish its governmental structures," support the new government of Iraq "in its efforts to reach a national consensus" as well as "contribute to the political resolution of the situation in Syria," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Moscow, Tuesday.
Speaking at a reception held to mark the occasion of the Islamic New Year, the Russian foreign minister also remarked that Moscow believes Islamic countries can become "the key members” of an international 'anti-terrorist' coalition, "on the basis of the rule of law and the principles of international law"
Lavrov also met with the United Nations and Arab League Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura on Tuesday, with the two discussing the Kremlin's ongoing military operation in Syria and the need for a strong political process to solve the four-and-a-half-year conflict.
