Russia: Varoufakis talks about political significance of art at Moscow Biennale

Former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis was among the key cultural figures to speak at the 6th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art on Thursday.

During his speech, Varoufakis reiterated the importance of art and music in understanding politics, highlighting the role Picasso's "Guernica" had on his understanding of the Spanish Civil War.

The 6th Moscow Biennale is organized by the Moscow Biennale Foundation and is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. It is the centre of a vast effort by the Moscow art scene that includes more than a hundred exhibitions throughout the city.
