
China: Xi Jinping pays his respects to revolutionary heroes ahead of National Day
Chinese President Xi Jinping and senior members of the Communist Party (CPC) paid their respects at the Monument to the People's Heroes on Beijing's Tiananmen Square, Wednesday, ahead of National Day celebrations on October 1.
During the ceremony soldiers carried wreaths to the monument to the heroes of China's independence struggle. The Chinese president, followed by Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang and other party members, bowed their heads before walking around the monument to observe the sculptures and the inscriptions. War veterans, children and students laid flowers to pay their respects at the monument, following the CPC heads.
The National Day of the People's Republic of China was instituted on October 1, 1949.
