UN: "This is not a refugee crisis" - Hungary FM tells reporters at UN
Fielding questions on the ongoing refugee crisis, Peter Szijjarto, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Hungary, told reporters in New York, Wednesday, “this is not a refugee crisis. This is not a migration crisis. This is a mass popular movement actually; mass popular movement with unlimited sources of supply of people."
Continuing Szijjarto added, "I have to tell you that this mass popular movement is consisting on economic migrants, refugees and to a certain extent –unfortunately- some foreign fighters, as well."
The foreign minister stated that his government will present an initiative ahead of the ‘Summit on Migration’ that will take place Wednesday (30 Sept) at the UN. “This initiative of ours is about a world quota. Because we understand that the major sources of this mass popular movement are countries which became unstable because of international political decisions."
In relation to a question concerning Hungary’s erection of fences along parts of their southern borders Szijjarto said “we defend our border, then the critics say: why do you build a fence? If we have to comply with EU regulations this is the only way. “Adding, “you have to have some physical obstacle there. And you know, it doesn't make us very happy to do it. We don't do it for fun."
