USA: Obama and Jinping to work together on climate change ahead of Paris
US President Barack Obama held a joint presser with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping announcing, among other things, deals on climate change and capped emissions from the White House lawn in Washington DC, Friday. The idea is to have a "common platform" which lays the foundations for the upcoming Paris Climate Change Conference.
Domestic programmes in both China and the US are expected to be expanded to reduce heat-trapping emissions. Moreover, technologies that are green will have huge investment put into them to ensure that progress is made globally on reducing green-house gases.
"When the world's two largest economies, energy consumers and carbon-emitters come together like this, then there is no reason for other countries - whether developed or developing - to not do as well. So, this is another major step towards the global agreement the world needs in two months’ time," Obama said.
