Austria: Refugees depart Nickelsdorf on Vienna-bound bus
Refugees boarded a bus in Nickelsdorf that will take them to Vienna, Wednesday.
Around 5,500 refugees have crossed the border from Hungary to Austria as of Wednesday, with Hungarian authorities transferring them directly from the Croatian border. Once in Austria, the travellers have no option of travelling by train to Germany due to German authorities suspending the border crossing, so they have to cross the border on foot if that is their choice destination.
There are still buses put on by Austrian authorities, transporting refugees to Vienna or Salzburg, but those who have the money prefer to take a taxi, with 100 taxi cars waiting for refugees close to the border at peak times for border crossing. They charge €200 ($224) for one person for a ride to Vienna train station, which is approximately 70 kilometres (43 miles) away from the border region.
