Germany: Assad's 'regime' contributes to refugee crisis - Bundestag spokesperson

Germany, Berlin
September 23, 2015 at 10:37 GMT +00:00 · Published

German Deputy Government spokesperson Christiane Wirtz blamed President Assad's regime in Syria in "contributing" to the current refugee crisis during the press conference in Berlin, on Wednesday. Berlin is "convinced" that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's "regime contributed to the situation when Syrian people flee from the country," she said. Life conditions are such in Syria "that they make people flee," she concluded.

According to Tobias Plate, who is a German Federal Government spokesperson and works at the Interior Ministry, the German authorities are not able to say the exact number of refugees arrived in the country. "There is no exact and assured total number of refugees," he said. The only number that can be determined is the number of people who have already applied for asylum on the territory of Germany. These numbers can be found in "the latest report" published on September 11. "The next one will be published in a month," Plate added.
