Germany: Hundreds rally against far-right demo in Nuremberg
At least 500 people gathered in front of the historic St. Lorenz church in Nuremberg to protest against around two dozen of far-right members of the German Die Rechte party, on Wednesday. The protesters were chanting "Nazis out!" and holding banners with anti-far right and pro-equality refugee slogans on them.
The protest was organised by the members of 'Allianz gegen Rechtsextremismus' - a left organisation who rally against right-wing extremism in Germany.
The Mayor of Nuremberg Ulrich Maly took part in the rally and expressed his support to anti-fascist protesters saying that "Nuremberg is united. We are all together for refugees and open society."
The two opposing groups were separated by barricades built by police. During the day the demo remained peaceful part from verbal provocations. But clashes did erupt at the Nuremberg main railway station in the late hours of Wednesday.
