Italy: Lega Nord's Salvini leads pension protest in Rome
Lega Nord leader Matteo Salvini headed a protest by a group of pensioners outside the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Rome, Tuesday.
Two years ago a reform to the pension system introduced by the Monti government left thousands of people who were expecting a pension under the old laws without a pension. These people, called "esodati" in Italy, staged the protest because the current government of Renzi is threatening to abolish a special fund established to guarantee their pensions.
Matteo Salvini attended the protest and entered the building to hold an official meeting with the Minister of Economic Affairs. After two hours of waiting inside the building, he left the ministry reportedly saying no one had dared to meet him.
