Slovakia: Far-right hold anti-refugee protest in Bratislava
Hundreds of far-right activists marched through the streets of Bratislava to oppose the arrival of refugees to the country caused by the large influx of people fleeing Syria and other states due to conflict, Saturday.
Protesters waved Slovakian flags and held banners reading "Slovakia is not Africa," while marching through the Slovakian capital. At one point, one of the protesters found an audio device in a bin, which apparently was aimed to provoke the protesters. He crushed it into the ground and then handed it to the police.
Nearby, some other people gathered for the Assembly for Understanding and Supporting Migrants, showing their support to the migrants and showing them that they are welcome. Rap concerts were played at the site. A group of far-right radicals were seen walking around, although no clashes were reported.
The demonstration was called by the organisation Alternativna Cesta (Alternative Path), and apart from protesting against refugees' arrival, they also blamed US policies in the Middle East as the main cause of the crisis. Alternativna Cesta claim that Slovakia should withdraw from NATO and issue a subsequent declaration of permanent neutrality.
