Germany: Gazprom's Medvedev attends St. Petersburg Open promo event
Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom Alexander Medvedev attended a tennis promotion event at Berlin's Russian House on Monday. Speaking ahead of a tour of the exhibition which included posters with a full description of Russian tennis stars such as Dmitri Tursunov and Mikhail Youzhny, Medvedev touted the relationship between Gazprom Export and Germany. "There are a lot of ties between Gazprom Export and Germany because we operate on German market for a very long time and we have many partners [here]," he said.
Musicians also played at the event, while Medvedev also explained why the exhibition named 'I Love the SPBOPEN' was held in Germany before iterating that "there is an intense rivalry in tennis between Russia and Germany, both on individual and team level."
The art installation celebrates the 20th year of the tournament after its inception in 1995. The tournament was not held in 2014 due to a change in venue but will go ahead this year between September 21 and 27, being staged in the Sibur Arena.
Gazprom have strong links with sport, including Russian tennis. They are one of the sponsors of the UEFA Champions League and the main sponsor of the ATP St. Petersburg Open.
