Belgium: Farmers with fire rally against EU agricultural policies
Heavy smoke covered the area around the European Commission headquarters when farmers set bushes on fire protesting against low prices on agricultural goods in Brussels, Monday.
The farmers set bushes and hay on fire and heavy smoke covered the square near the European Commission headquarters. Heavy police force was on presence, monitoring the protest. However no incidents were reported and the protest remained peaceful.
The demonstration is one of many that has hit Belgium as well as the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Spain over recent months. Falling prices for agricultural produce have been partially attributed to recent changes in the market caused by EU sanctions placed on Russia, to which in turn Russia banned EU imports.
