Turkey: Protesters ransack HDP office, burn party materials
Unidentified protesters entered the People's Democracy Party (HDP) offices in Balikesir and threw the furniture into the street from the third floor, Monday. The goods were then set on fire and had to be extinguished by the police, who succeeded in eventually dispersing the crowd.
The protesters are believed to have carried out the raid as a reaction to the Daglica attack on Sunday, when Turkish soldiers were killed by people who are believed to belong to the outlawed Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK). HDP is Turkey's biggest pro-Kurdish political party.
Local media reported that computers, tables, chairs and a television were destroyed in the Balikesir raid. Protesters were reportedly heard chanting phrases including "down with the PKK" and 'martyrs are immortal."
