France: Eight dead as Paris apartment building goes up in flames
Eight people were killed, including two children, in a fire on Myrha Street in Paris' 18th district on Wednesday morning. Six victims died from smoke inhalation, while the other two died from injuries sustained after jumping from upper floor windows to escape the blaze. It took over 100 firefighters to contain the fire.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, although criminal prosecutors are now heading the inquiries. Suspicion that the blaze may have been an act of arson stems from the fact that the fire service was called to the scene at around 02:20 local time to put out a small fire, only later being called back to extinguish the second, deadly blaze.
