The secretary of the Russian embassy in Germany Vladimir Kukin stood alongside the Mayor of Senftenberg Andreas Frederich as they commemorated the fallen Red Army soldiers at the Soviet war memorial in Senftenberg, Tuesday, after the renovation of the monument.
Kukin spoke at the memorial to commemorate the fallen Red Army soldiers during World War II, stating that "the Soviet honourary war cemetary in Seftenberg is a place where we can bring" Germany and Russia a "step closer."
The Soviet War memorial contains a military cemetary plot with the graves of over 182 Soviet soldiers and officers who died fighting to liberate Senftenberg between the April 19-20, 1945.
