Hungary: Migrants protest outside Budapest rail station
Hundreds of migrants and refugees protested outside Budapest’s Keleti Station after police barred them from entering the premises in the Hungarian capital, Tuesday.
Hundreds of people have gathered to the station with the hope of catching westbound trains to Germany and other European Union countries, with 100 police including some in riot gear also gathering outside the premises. Huge queues have formed in the hope of boarding trains, with many protesting by chanting slogans and clapping their hands.
The chaos started on Monday night when a group of migrants and refugees were suddenly allowed to leave for Germany without visa checks. Hundreds of people then attempted to board trains, causing disruption to travel plans. More people tried to board west-bound trains on Tuesday morning, but have been forced back by authorities.
