Brazil: Thousands flood Rio for LGBT pride
Thousands of revelers dressed in colourful attire partied on the streets of Rio de Janeiro's Maureira district on Sunday as part of the city's annual gay pride celebrations
Crowds of people danced through the streets with rainbow flags, with some boarding themed floats in theatrical carnival costumes. The parade, now in it's 19th year was held under the slogan,"We Are a Million Voices."
This year the event is calling for the government to approve a law that bans discrimination against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals. Brazilian parliament recently saw a surge of opposition to gay marriage from conservative and evangelical parties.
