Belgium: Poroshenko and Tusk discuss new ceasefire in eastern Ukraine
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko held a joint press conference with European Council President Donald Tusk in Brussels, Thursday. During the presser both leaders discussed the implementation of a new ceasefire in eastern Ukraine and the deal reached between Ukraine and its creditors.
"I very much welcome the deal that was reached between Ukraine and its creditors," Tusk stated, adding that the Trilateral Contact Group for Ukraine had reached an agreement on a new ceasefire to start on September 1. The European Council president said that both pieces of news were "cause for optimism."
Poroshenko also welcomed the new ceasefire deal struck between Ukraine and the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republic (DPR/LPR) but said he did not understand why "we should wait for this almost one week and why we can not stop it immediately."
