Ukraine: Poroshenko labels Novorossiya a myth just like Tolkien's Mordor
Speaking during a military parade as part of the celebrations for Ukraine's Independence Day in Kiev, Monday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, said that "Novorossiya is a myth just like Tolkien's Mordor", referencing the evil character from J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' novels.
Both the self-proclaimed People's Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk established a confederation by mutual agreement on May 22, 2014, but by January of 2015 the project was frozen. Much of Ukraine celebrated the 24th anniversary of its independence including a March of Independence in which thousands of servicemen took part in.
Poroshenko is due to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande in Berlin later on Monday.
