Iran: Hammond attends UK Embassy re-opening ceremony in Tehran
The British Embassy re-opened in Tehran, Sunday, almost four years after it was closed. British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond attended the re-opening ceremony in the country's capital alongside Iranian diplomats.
At the re-opening ceremony Hammond stated that "for the UK, we've signed up to the deal, we endorse the deal, we intend to make it work, we are committed to the deal," adding that the agreement "will be to the benefit of all of our countries and to the wider international community."
The UK Embassy in Tehran had been closed since 2011 when protesters stormed the building to oppose sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
The re-opening of the British embassy in Iran comes soon after the Iranian embassy in London re-opened for business. The warming of relations followed the recently-reached Iran nuclear deal.
