Russia: Lavrov talks possible Putin-Obama meeting
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that there is a possibility for a face-to-face meeting between presidents Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama in the near future, speaking from Sevastopol, Wednesday.
Discussing the latest developments, Lavrov stated that "our American colleagues are sending signals" and that if Washington suggests a sit-down then "our president will consider it constructively." The Russian foreign minister went on to say that the 70th UN General Assembly in New York in September presents an opportunity for a meeting on the sidelines. However, Lavrov also touted the G20 or APEC summits, both scheduled for November, as potential events for the meeting
President Putin has been on a three-day visit to Crimea during which he has visited Konstatinovski Fortress and greeted crowds of well-wishers. Also to mark 170 years of the Russian Geographical Society, Putin dived to the bottom of the Black Sea in a submersible to inspect a Byzantine shipwreck.
