At least 16 people have been killed and about 80 injured after a bomb blast hit a shopping district in Bangkok, Monday.

Police sources have said they believe a bomb may have been attached to a motorbike in Bangkok's busy Ratchaprasong shopping district close to the Hindu Erawan Shrine, with foreign nationals confirmed among the injured.

Police said they found two bombs at the site, one of which did not detonate.

According to Thai Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, the perpetrators intended to damage the economy and tourism sector.
