Germany: Refugees await help outside Berlin's Health and Social Office
Refugees gathered outside Berlin's LaGeSo (State Office for Health and Social Care) building, waiting to register with authorities in the hope of receiving accommodation, Wednesday. Ous, a refugee from Gambia, said he came to the LaGeSo building looking for "someone to help me," following his arrival in Germany alone, after his uncle "died in the sea" crossing the Mediterranean.
Hundreds of refugees camp outside the offices, with nowhere else to go. Dozens of volunteers are distributing water, food and basic necessities.
Germany had around 40,000 asylum seekers just five years ago, whereas the estimate for 2015 is 10 times as high, with at least 400,000 projected to seek refuge on German soil.
