
Germany: F-16 fighter jet crashes in Bavaria, confirms US military official
A US Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft crashed in the north Bavarian county of Bayreuth on Tuesday, Lt. Colonel of the United States Army Brian Carlin told the press. The aircraft belonged to the US military's 480th Fighter Squadron and crashed at approximately 09:38 (08:38 GMT) in Engelmannsreuth.
The plane's pilot managed to escape death and sustained only minor injuries after ejecting himself from the aircraft. Firefighters and other emergency personnel rushed to the site of the wreckage, extinguishing the flames and cordoning off the area.
Reports indicate the cause of the crash was likely engine failure. An official investigation has been launched into the incident.
