Yemen: Houthis release prisoners after Red Cross negotiations
A small group of prisoners was released from captivity by the Houthi faction Ansarullah, in Sanaa, following mediation by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Monday. The prisoners were afterwards transferred to Aden by ICRC plane. They were exchanged following the earlier release from captivity of seven Houthi fighters in the south.
Over 1,900 civilians have died in Yemen and more than 100,000 people have been displaced since the conflict escalated with the Saudi-led air campaign in March 2015. The UN has declared Yemen to be in dire need of assistance, categorising it as a level three humanitarian emergency, their highest emergency alert.
