
Serbia: Booze, food, dancing more at the Guca Brass Band Festival
Thousands of people from Serbia and from all over the world gathered in the central town of Guca for the 55th Guca Brass Band Festival, Saturday. The festival in Guca is one of the biggest in Serbia drawing in huge foreign crowds and helping the tourism sector. The visitors are attracted by huge amounts of traditional Serbian food and alcohol as well as the crazy parties that go into the early hours.
On Saturday the Macedonian 'Uska Kan' band were deemed the best international brass band by judges, while Serbian favourite Ekrem Mamutovic was given the title of the world's best trumpet player.
This year's week-long festival which began on August 6 and finishes on August 10 is expected to have attracted as many as 500,000 people in total.
