
Latvia: USA is 'committed' to Latvia's security - US Congressman Wittman
US Congressman Rob Wittman said that the "United States is committed to Latvia's security" during a press conference in Riga, Wednesday. Speaking alongside Latvian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Andrejs Pildegovics, the former Latvian ambassador to the USA, Wittman also stated that the US wants a strong NATO.
In response to a question from the press regarding the US military's presence in the country, Wittman said that "there is no relaxing of the United State's commitment to its military presence here in Latvia." The US congressman also stated that the United State's is "committed to making sure that we are a good partner not just to Latvia but also to the region."
Wittman is heading a delegation of Republican congressmen currently in Riga to discuss economic and military cooperation between the USA and Latvia. During their visit the congressmen are expected to meet with several Latvian ministers and are set to visit the military base in Adazi to meet with US soldiers stationed there.
