Malaysia: Lavrov praises Malaysian-Russian relations at ASEAN summit

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called Malaysia a key partner for both Russia and the whole Asia-Pacific region, during his opening address at ministerial meeting of the Association of South East Nations summit (ASEAN) summit in Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday.

Lavrov praised Malaysia and Russia's cooperation, saying the countries will seek to deepen their relations and create "a system which can ensure sovereign security and sustainable development."

Russia takes part alongside China and the United States in the gathering through the Russia-ASEAN dialogue. Next year, the partnership between Russia and the ten member state ASEAN will mark 20 years of cooperation. The Association includes: Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines.
