The German Red Cross, staff from the university, along with volunteers welcomed the refuges in Dresden. It is unknown how long the refugees will stay at the gym.

Up to 180,000 refugees have applied for asylum in Germany in 2015; the numbers are expected to reach around 400,000 applicants before the end of the year. In 2014 Germany received more applications for asylum than any other European country - 202,000.
