Turkey: Scuffles break out at Ankara trade union demo, arrests made
Scuffles broke out in Ankara, Monday, as police used tear gas and shields to disperse a group of union members from marching to the Labour Ministry to make their demands heard amid the first day of negotiations between unions and Turkey's Labour Ministry over public sector wages.
The protesters from the Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (KESK) gathered outside the ASTI metro station and attempted to march to the Labour and Social Security Ministry in Ankara's Besevler district, where the negotiations on public servants' wages had already started.
According to local news sources, following the police intervention and scuffles, the marchers were allowed to proceed on the condition that they were to remain on the pavement.
