Italy: Toppled trees crush cars in fierce Florence storm
Residents of Florence awoke to the aftermath of huge storms which ravaged the city on Sunday. Toppled trees crushed cars and damaged houses, after fierce winds, hail and thunderstorms struck the city over the weekend. Local media reported that 12 people had been injured, including a teenager who suffered head trauma after being struck by a falling tree.
Downed electrical lines caused trains bound for Florence to return to their station of origin.
Saturday marked the beginning of Italy’s vacation month, August, as another heatwave was predicted to roast Florence. And Italy’s topsy-turvy weather looks set to continue.
