UK: Pro-Palestine activists stage flashmobs in British Museum and Barclays bank
Pro-Palestine activists staged flashmobs at both the British Museum and a branch of Barclays in London, Saturday, with participants performing Dabke, a traditional celebratory dance to Palestinian music. The flashmobs were organised as a 'Day of Rage' against companies that the activists believed to be complicit with the actions of Israel towards Palestine.
Those involved in the flashmob waved flags and banners to show their support for Palestine, inviting onlookers to join them. The action was carried out by 'Training for Transformation' (TFT), a human rights activism empowerment programme which acts in solidarity with the Palestinian civil society.
The activists chose July 25 to perform the flashmobs as it marks the one year anniversary since the civilian death toll in Gaza rose to over 850 during the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) so called 'Operation Protective Edge' in July 2014. In total the Israeli attack left up to 2300 Palestinians dead, with 70 percent of the death toll thought to be civilians. Six Israeli civilians died in the conflict as well as 66 soldiers.
