Ukraine: Heavy gun battles and shelling rage on near Donetsk
Heavy gun fire and shelling between self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR/DNR) and Kiev forces on the frontline bordering Peski and Donetsk was caught on camera, Tuesday evening. Several small areas became engulfed in flames as a result of shelling while DNR militia members prepared their weapons and investigated the incoming fire.
Artillery attacks have been ramped up in and around Donetsk following the announcement that the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR/LNR) planned to carry out a unilateral withdrawal of weapons of less than 100mm calibre from the lines of engagement in Ukraine.
The DNR militias began carrying this out at the frontline of the conflict in Donetsk, Sunday, under supervision of the OSCE in a bid to implement Minsk agreement protocols. Following the announcement, forces loyal to Kiev carried out a large shelling attack on the city of Donetsk.
