Germany: New doc 'Ukrainian Agony' premieres in Berlin
'Ukrainian Agony: The Concealed War,' a new documentary about the conflict in Donbass, made its German debut in Berlin on Saturday evening.
The film attempts to uncover the 'truth' of the conflict by focusing on the personal narrative of three different actors: civilians, soldiers and journalists. It is the result of over three terabytes worth of footage from Donbass collected over a period of several months.
A Q&A session with director Mark Baltamai followed the screening, with one audience member accusing the picture of being a pro-Russian "propaganda" piece. Baltamai responded to the claims by criticising western representations of the conflict, saying the reality on the ground is much more complex than the "black and white" narrative of Russian "aggression."
Further screenings of Ukrainian Agony are expected throughout July and August in Brunswick, Munich, Aachen and Cologne.
