Germany: Three thousand evacuated as WWII bomb defused near Berlin
Over 3,000 inhabitants of Hennigsdorf, a town located just outside Berlin, were evacuated as experts defused a 125 kg (276 pound) bomb dating from World War II, Thursday. Public transportation was suspended and roads in the neighbourhood closed for several hours as bomb disposal squads got to work.
The explosive was discovered on Saturday by residents working in a garden on a privately-owned plot of land. Local media say the bomb was dropped by Britain's Royal Air Force during World War II.
