Russia: Friends of victims in Omsk barracks collapse wait for news
Relatives and friends of soldiers that died or were injured in the Omsk barracks collapse on Sunday gathered at the hospital for news about their loved ones in the central Russian city, Monday.
Those waiting outside the hospital expressed their disbelief at what happened after 23 people died and a further 19 were injured when the roof and walls of the four storey Omsk Airborne Training Centre collapsed in the nearby village of Svetliy.
Many of the injured were transported to Moscow for specialist medical care after they were recovered from the rubble.
The barracks belonged to Airborne Forces 242nd Training Centre and had been refurbished just two years after major repair works were concluded.
