Germany: Greek deal is a "fair offer" with "hard conditions" - German Vice Chancellor

The deal reached between Greece and its international creditors is "a fair offer," German Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs declared, as he prepared to board a flight, in Berlin Tegel Airport, Monday.

Gabriel explained that delays in the last moths increased the financial problems, which explains why "the conditions are relatively hard." He went to thank the Greek government for accepting the terms, adding that Europe also made steps towards Greece. "This is the only way to come to solutions in Europe and that's why I think it was a good result," Gabriel said.

Coming just over a week after the Greek people rejected the demands of creditors in a national referendum, a draft statement released on Sunday 12 indicates the scale of the demands of the creditors. These demands include: the full implementation of automatic spending cuts, including pension reforms and other austerity measures. Moreover, they require the Syriza government to align its legislative agenda with institutions, removing legislation that breaks with the strict spending plans.

The Hellenic Parliament must now agree on and push through some of the measures by Wednesday, July 15 and further measures by Wednesday, July 22.
