Former Foreign Minster of Greece Evangelos Venizelos insisted that the government must 'close the deal and go ahead in order to bring the country out of the dead-end', before entering parliament for a vote on the government's latest proposals to the country's international creditors, in Athens, Friday.

Venizelos gave the statement moments before Greece's MPs are to meet to discuss and vote on a new austerity plan which will contain pension cuts and tax increases, in order to seek 53.5 billion euros ($59 billion) as part of a new bailout package.

The vote is expected to take place at 19.00 CET, and takes place ahead of Sunday's emergency summit

called for by European leaders.
