Turkey: Protesters ransack Thai consulate in Istanbul over Uighur deportation
Protesters, decrying the decision of the Thai government to deport 100 Uighur refugees to China, attacked the Thai consulate in Istanbul, Wednesday night, causing severe damages to the building.
The group rampaged through the embassy dressed in blue Kok Bayraq flags, symbolic of the Uighur struggle, vandalising both the interior and exterior of the building. Police later arrived and arrested several of the demonstrators.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Turkey has advised nationals not to display Thai flags in public, in an attempt to avoid provoking violence. The decision to deport the Uighur refugees from Thailand has been met with anger by many in Turkey, who consider Uighurs to be ethnically Turkic Muslims.
