Germany: Scuffles follow police shutdown of unauthorised street market in Berlin
Police and protesters scuffled after an unauthorised flea market was set up on Rigaer Strasse in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain, Wednesday. Around 60 people were attending the market when the police intervened and confiscated the items on sale. Minor scuffles ensued between police and those running the market, who then protested against the police action, causing police to remain in the area for some time after they had shut the market down.
Rigaer Strasse has a large population of squatters who often put on events in the buildings that they live in.
