
Russia: Putin meets South African President Zuma on sidelines of BRICS summit
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with South African President Jacob Zuma in Ufa, Wednesday, to discuss bilateral relations on the sidelines of the seventh BRICS summit.
Putin thanked Zuma for his participation in the summit, adding that South-Africa is "a leading and reliable partner of Russia in Africa." He also thanked the African leader for promoting ties with African organisations such as the African Union and the Southern African Development Community. Zuma in turn thanked Putin for his invite for the event, adding that South Africa is indeed a true friend of the Russian Federation.
The BRICS summit comes ahead of the 15th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on July 9 and 10, which will also be held in Ufa. In total, 10,000 visitors are expected at the two events.
