Russia: Putin meets Tajik President Rahmon at BRICS summit in Ufa
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to discuss bilateral relations at the seventh BRICS summit in Ufa, Wednesday.
The two leaders praised the warm relations the countries have with each other. Putin noted that the trade volume between Russia and Tajikistan rose by 21 percent, which he said was "a good sign", and acknowledged Tajikistan's efforts within the scope of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (ODKB) as well as the successful military drills the Russian and Tajik military had conducted earlier this year.
The BRICS summit comes ahead of the 15th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on July 9 and 10, which will also be held in Ufa. In total, 10,000 visitors are expected at the two events.
