UK: Pro-Palestine activists blockade Israeli arms factory, arrests made
Pro-Palestinian activists resisted detention by police outside a factory they accuse of making drone engines for Israel, Monday. Protesters attempted to block a road outside the UAV Engines plant in Shenstone near Birmingham, holding a sit-down protest on the road leading to the factory gates. Around 15 people were detained for their part in the protest, with police seen hauling the protesters off the asphalt.
Coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the 2014 Israeli attack on Gaza, the action was part of a wider protest to shut down four factories owned by Israeli arms company Elbit Systems.
London Palestine Action, Campaign Against the Arms Trade and the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign are among the protest organisers. Activists occupied the same Shenstone factory in August last year, in protest at the company's alleged role in Israeli's deadly offensive against Gaza.
