Russia: See 'Titan the Robot' sing for crowds outside the Bolshoi Theatre
The all-singing, all-dancing and not at all scary 'Titan the Robot' joined a children's choir outside Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre, Wednesday. The robot entertained crowds as he sang some duets with the young singers. Titan also managed to sing some traditional Russian ballads to the pleasantly surprised crowd.
The robot costume which is worn by an actor, was created by English company Cyberstein Robots, the outfit is approximately 2.4 metres (7.9 feet) tall and weighs up to 60 kilograms (132 pounds). The suit is controlled partly through remote control and partly through the movement of the actor inside. The actor speaks using a voice modulator which allows his voice to sound more robotic. An assistant armed with a remote control is always on hand in case 'Titan' needs to respond to any unseen threats, including unseen wandering children. If in danger of causing harm the assistant can implement controls to override the movement of the robot.
Titan has appeared at numerous public events, including the opening of the Sochi Winter Olympics and concerts with pop star Rihanna. Despite rubbing shoulders with celebrities Titan is still reportedly available for Bar Mitzvahs and Christenings.
